1050 Yates Receives Unanimous Approval from Mayor and Council

481 new rental homes are coming to the Harris Green neighbourhood of Victoria following unanimous approval by Mayor and Council for the Development Permit Application of 1050 Yates, as it was put forth for their final consideration on January 11, 2024.

This development – of two buildings above a shared podium (15 and 25 storeys) – is located at the intersection of Cook and Yates Street and will bring 481 secured and purpose-built rental homes ranging from studios to 3-bedroom suites.

β€œThis area at the junction of Cook and Yates Streets is quickly becoming a dynamic hub with new residents and amenities, with our soon-to-be completed projects Haven and Nest just across the street, and a number of new projects from other developers nearby. We are excited to see this project receive approval so we can deliver these rental homes as soon as possible,” stated Byron Chard, President and CEO of Chard Development following the recent approval.

Once constructed, residents of this development will benefit from extensive shared lifestyle and amenity spaces, access to two guest suites, and community-serving ground-oriented retail and a south-facing public plaza. Beyond adding much-needed rental housing in such close proximity to Downtown Victoria, this project will create an estimated 1,000 jobs during construction that will contribute to the economic vibrancy of the City.

We look forward to getting started building these rental homes, and thank the City staff, and everyone else who has supported and worked so hard to bring this project to such an important milestone.
