As we welcome 2023, the Chard team is excited to mark a significant milestone at the future site of 580 purpose-built rental homes along the 600 block of SW Marine Drive. Crews have mobilized at the South Vancouver site and preparation for demolition of the existing buildings is now underway.
The site was fully vacated in December and the crew has begun assembling the construction fencing around the property. The existing buildings – which include a former Denny’s restaurant, a small two-storey commercial building and a single-storey retail building – are now being readied for abatement, which is scheduled to get underway next week and will be followed by demolition.
This marks the exciting first step that will prepare for the construction of a comprehensive purpose-built rental community in the evolving South Vancouver neighbourhood. The impending development will include two residential rental towers of 28 and 32 storeys. A public midblock connection will welcome residents, neighbours and visitors to a large, south facing plaza and more than 20,000 square feet of amenity space will be available to all building residents.
Once completed, the development will bring a diverse mix of purpose-built rental housing, including 28 deeply affordable homes offered through a partnership with YWCA Metro Vancouver, as well as community-serving retail and a dedicated childcare centre to the Marpole community. It will significantly improve the public realm, bringing added vibrancy to this centrally-located, transit-oriented neighbourhood.
