Chard’s proposed development at 710 Caledonia Avenue and 1961 Douglas Street has received unanimous support from Victoria’s City Council to move forward to Public Hearing. The project – which occupies approximately half of a city block at the northern edge of Downtown Victoria – is envisioned as a progressive and complete community that meets the needs of people from all backgrounds through diverse housing options across three residential towers.
Pending approval at Public Hearing, the development would make way for three residential towers (21, 21 and 16 storeys), which would include 145 condo homes and 306 market and below-market rental homes with extensive amenities, both indoor and outdoor, at the upper floors of each tower. The buildings are connected by a pedestrian-oriented podium that incorporates a large purpose-built daycare space and space for a 30,000 SF full-service grocer, as well as a restaurant and café space. An 8,600 SF south and west-facing public plaza at the corner of Douglas Street and Caledonia Avenue will be the heart of this site, animating the streetscape and improving the public realm.
We look forward to seeing this project through the approvals process to Public Hearing in the coming months!
