Earlier this year, Chard, along with MCM Architects, submitted an application for the rezoning of 710 Caledonia Avenue and 1961 Douglas Street. Occupying approximately half of a city block at the northern edge of Downtown Victoria, this project will be a progressive and complete community that meets the needs of people from all backgrounds through diverse housing options across three residential towers.
The approval of the application would make way for three residential towers (21, 21 and 16 storeys), which would include 145 condo homes and 306 market and below-market rental homes with extensive amenities, both indoor and outdoor, at the upper floors of each tower. The buildings are connected by pedestrian-oriented podium with 42,000 SF core office space, a large purpose-built daycare space, space for a 30,000 SF full-service grocer, as well as a restaurant and café space. An 8,600 SF south and west-facing public plaza at the corner of Douglas Street and Caledonia Avenue will be the heart of this site, animating the streetscape and improving the public realm.
We are pleased to share that on October 6th, this application went before the City of Victoria’s Committee of the Whole and was given unanimous approval! We’re looking forward to seeing this project through the approvals process to Public Hearing in early 2023.
