Meet Chief Operating Officer, Steve Vernon

We are excited to announce the promotion of Steve Vernon to Chief Operating Officer.

Steve has been a pivotal member of the Chard team for over two decades. During his tenure with Chard, Steve has worn many hats with his most recent position having been as Vice President of Operations. In his new role as COO, Steve works closely with CEO, Byron Chard, to oversee Chard’s operational functions including cross department oversight, staffing, administration, and company strategy.

Steve is a natural team builder who has always embodied Chard’s commitment to relationship building, accountability and quality. Through his expertise, leadership skills and vision, he will continue to drive our organizational vision and mission as COO.

We know Steve pretty well… but we asked him some questions to get to know him even better. Read below to see what he said.

  • How long have you been in the industry?

I’ve been in the industry since 1996. I started with a boutique developer in Vancouver where I worked for close to 4 years before joining Chard in 2000.

  • What does your day-to-day look like in your new role?

I don’t have a typical day to day! Every day is different. I get to work with every department at Chard on every project we undertake, which means that I wear a lot of different hats.

  • What is a recent win or highlight you’ve had at work?

While every day involves a lot of little wins, the big wins are when we’re able to complete a project and see all of our hard work come to fruition. We are deep in the development and construction on so many projects right now, and I’m looking forward to seeing them all through to completion.

  • How are you challenged in your role? And how do you work through challenges?

Dealing with so many different personalities and projects every day makes my role a constant challenge but also extremely rewarding. I try to take the time to get to know every member of our team and I’m always available to listen or bounce ideas off of no matter how busy things get.

  • Favourite place near the office to grab a coffee? What’s your go-to order?

I grab coffee from the amazing Nespresso Gemini 221 coffee machine in our staff kitchen! I drink my coffee black… it’s easier and faster that way.

  • Share a fun fact about you!

I’m an identical twin which means I only show up at the office 50% of the time and no one is ever the wiser.

  • What is something you are looking forward to in your personal life?

I finally booked my pre-COVID vacation and am looking forward to a long overdue getaway with my family.Â
