Meet Development Manager, Stefan Hertel!

Stefan joined the Chard team in 2021. We asked Stefan some questions to get to know him better. Check them out below!

What does a day in the life at Chard look like?

In my role as a development manager, I get to manage design teams, build relationships with City staff, and collaborate with different teams within the company.

What do you enjoy MOST about working at Chard?

Chard does an exceptional job of hiring, so everyone in the office is a pleasure to work with and be around. That is what I enjoy most about working at Chard!

Can you share a career highlight or accomplishment you’re proud of?

I am most proud of having two projects receive unanimous support from the City of Vancouver’s Urban Design Panel – a mixed-use residential rental project in Marpole and a 12-storey office development in Mount Pleasant.

How are you challenged in your role?

The development manager role is one of constant problem solving, from managing compressed project schedules to navigating City by-laws to finding a balance between exceptional design and financial viability.

When you’re not working, what can we find you doing (hobbies)?

Most of my free time is spent with my wife and kids.  Seven-year-old Jake and five-year-old Samantha are both in taekwondo and Jake started his first year of ice hockey this month. If I find a moment or two to myself, I enjoy watching movies and listening to music.

Share a fun fact about you!

I taught English in Busan, South Korea for two years. I have an accounting background and achieved the CA designation in 2011.
